    Molding Process Technician

    Reporting to the Molding Shift Supervisor, the Process Technician is responsible for managing and directing resources to tackle technical issues that arise during the shift that results in meeting safety, quality and delivery targets and to foster a working environment that is fair, equitable and driven to continuously improve.

    Responsibilities:

    • Health & Safety
      • Ensures all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner using appropriate PPE when applicable. Provide the training when appropriate
      • Assist shift supervisor in accident/incident investigations to determine root causes, corrective actions and follow-up to ensure completion
      • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards
      • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed
      • Regularly audit the shop floor to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented
         
    • Coordinate the Shift Molding Operations

      • Identify and communicate mold/machine problems to Tool Room and Maintenance. Act as a liaison between the various departments to address issues for timely corrective action
      • When paged by Machine Operator for help, attend to the request at the earliest.
      • Communicate with next and previous shifts to understand:
        • Technical issues that affect attainment and needs continued attention.
        • Quality issues that affect attainment
      • Assist Shift Supervisor in responding to NCR’s and PQI’s including establishing and following up on corrective action plans
         
    • Operate the Injection Molding Machine, Stacking Equipment and Molds

      Machine:

      • Perform complex troubleshooting and process adjustments
      • Start-up any Injection Molding machine without a saved set-up
      • Create master set-up sheet with all machine parameters when one does not exist
      • Set-up servo and mechanical swing chute. Maintain, troubleshoot and make adjustments if needed for proper functioning
      • Perform basic machine maintenance to help troubleshoot for maintenance

      Mold:

      • Make a decision to block cavities
      • Identify mold problems for repair and communicate to tooling department for corrective action

      Stacking Equipment:

      • Verify stacker set-up. Troubleshoot and make adjustments if needed for proper functioning
      • Set-up, troubleshoot Polystacker systems

       

    • Report and Document

      • Maintain master set-up sheets of all mold-machine combination in binders
      • Provide detail documentation on corrective actions taken to resolve mold/machine/stacker and quality issues
      • Complete and submit service request to the issuing department during the shift. Follow-up with service request to ensure that the necessary corrective action has been taken and the problem has been resolved
      • Print and file shop floor documentation for future reference
         
    • Develop Skills of Shop Floor Employees

      • Identify training needs for machine operators. Be certified in TWI and ensure TWI methods are being used to train team members
      • Ensure adherence to standard work and provide timely feedback
      • Provide training and coaching to machine operators on operating the machines effectively to produce quality parts
      • Lead continuous improvement projects and ensure machine operator participation

    Qualifications:

    • Diploma from a plastic training institute or equivalent

    • Ability to effectively coach, manage and support Team Members.

    • Ability to manage significant workload including conflicting priorities.

    • Strong knowledge and experience in injection molding, processing and tooling.

    • Demonstrated trouble shooting experience.

    • Outstanding interpersonal and people management skills.

    • Effective planning and organizational skills.

    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and applications.

    • Knowledge of 6 sigma tools and applications.

    Details:

    • This job requires both office and plant exposure with considerable time spent on shop floor exposed to noisy environment.

    • Flexibility of work hours required to deal with problems on a 24 hour, 7 day basis.

    Tool Room Supervisor

    To provide the leadership and co-ordination of all Tool Room functions and activities in order to meet the safety, quality, delivery and cost targets and to foster a working environment that is fair, equitable and driven to continuously improve.  Direct reports include:  1 Tool Room Lead Hand, 1 Tool Room Machinist, 1 tool Room Driver. 

    Indirectly responsible for 8 Mold Technicians supporting the shift.

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitor and ensure Health & Safety

      • Ensures all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner using the appropriate PPE when applicable. Provide the training when appropriate.

      • Lead accident/incident investigations and submit reports in a timely manner.

      • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards.

      • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.

      • Regularly audit the Shop Floor to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented.
         

    • Manage Shift Personnel

      • Ensure that all team members are treated in an equal and fair manner, abiding by the company Standards of Conduct.

      • Ensure that the Dayshift is adequately staffed in the Tool Room to meet production support an PM requirements.

      • Identify training opportunities; manage the training plan and keep the Training Matrix up to date.

      • Ensure adherence to standard work and provide timely feedback.

      • Ensure cross-training and back-up support is adequate.

      • Manage the vacation schedule for the Automation Department.

      • Manage and report absences, overtime, personnel moves and other exceptions.

      • Manage the Performance Improvement programme including:.

        • Dealing with issues and providing timely feedback.

        • Maintaining proper notes and documentation of issues and interactions.

        • Providing proper information to HR.

        • Coaching and counselling Team Members as appropriate.

      • Ensure Automation Tool Room Team Member information is correct and up to date.
         

    • Ensure the achievement of performance targets

      • Understand shift performance targets and how they contribute enabling the Operations objectives to be met.

      • Schedule Work using Department Scheduling Board for all Department Members as well as the Mold Technicians.

      • Forecast, assign and execute Tool Room PM Program and Co-Ordinate with Production and Scheduling to ensure activities take place.

      • Monitor PM Program and maintain a method to measure compliance and improve.

      • Order new and spare parts as required.

      • Monitor shift performance to ensure targets are being met.

      • Be aware of any significant Tooling issues arising during the shift and ensure corrective action plans are initiated and executed.

      • Ensure timely response to NCR’s including understanding the root cause and establishing corrective action plans.

      • Escalate issues as required.
         

    • Report and communicate

      • Provide feedback to previous shift on any issues that does not position your shift for success.

      • Conduct and report on daily audits.

      • Ensure routine communications sessions take place with the Shop Floor.

      • Report on production status and potential schedule attainment issues to Production Supervision.
         

    • Support and drive Continuous Improvement

      • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in establishing the performance metrics and the CI programme for the Department.

      • Facilitate implementation of changes on the shift.

      • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific CI projects and establishment of Standard Work.

      • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in Kaizens.

      • Promote a continuous improvement culture.
         

    • Fiscal Responsibilities

      • Responsible for the Tool Room budget.

      • Responsible for developing Capital Appropriation Requests for specific Tooling projects.

    Requirements:

    • Post secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Engineering or equivalent.

    • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership in a fast paced, high volume Lean Manufacturing environment.

    Senior Mold Specialist

    To have ownership of all the molds to ensure sufficient capability and capacity to meet production demands and to proactively identify and drive Continuous Improvement projects to improve product quality, overall manufacturing efficiency and productivity while reducing costs and waste. To provide day-to-day technical support to enable achievement of production targets and Molding Dept.obiectives. 
     

    Responsibilities:
     

    • Health & Safety 1 HACCP 15S compliance:
      • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards.
      • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.
      • Participate in Safety Investigations when required.
      • Provide Safety training when required.
    • Provide day to day technical support of Molding Operations and Maintenance:
      • Thoroughly understand, be the resident expert and have ownership of molds and associated technologies.
      • Be knowledgeable of customer requirements and quality standards, and understand process / product interactions.
      • Establish and maintain processes and procedures regarding mold handling, installation, set up, etc.
      • Take ownership of mold overhauls and major repairs, including liaising with outside vendors and suppliers and providing requirements and specifications of work to be done, and of mold requalifications.
      • Act as a resource to Operations, Maintenance and Quality personnel by taking ownership and leading resolution of escalated day to day problems using the Problem Solving methodology.
      • Report on performance and corrective actions at appropriate forums as required, such as Daily Production Meeting.
      • Provide feedback to Molding Supervision on the compliance to processes and procedures.
    • Identify and drive implementation of Continuous Improvements:
      • Understand Molding and Toronto Operations objectives and actively seek to understand issues negatively impacting Molding and downstream customer performance and recommend or implement corrective actions.
      • Understand and report on current state process capabilities and reliability.
      • Identify improvement opportunities, specifically regarding part weight reductions, cycle time reductions and mold reliability
      • Develop and document L2 and capital budget plans and manage those programs including establishing business cases and preparing CAR's.
      • Lead, facilitate or participate in improvement projects.
      • Act as Molding's primary contact and representative to Engineering regarding any mold related project or issue.
      • Lead accreditation of new or upgraded molds.
      • Ensure training documentation is complete and training plans in place prior to turnover to production.
      • Ensure appropriate documentation, spare parts and preventative maintenance programs are in place by project completion.
      • Ensure process improvements deliver projected results.
    • Develop skill level of Molding Operations and Maintenance personnel
      • Identify Operations personnel skill gaps and opportunities.
      • Participate with Supervisors to establish skill development and training plans.

    • Provide Sales and Customer Support:
      • Maintain the list all active and inactive molds indicating current status and estimated time and resources required to make inactive molds production ready.
      • Provide technical support and information to Sales and E&T regarding incremental Sell What We Make and new product opportunities, including participating in POIR's.
      • Make customer visits to resolve quality problems or assist with new business opportunities.

     
    Qualifications:

      • Post graduate degree or diploma preferably in Engineering or equivalent
      • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership in a fast paced high volume Lean Manufacturing environment with 3-5 years in a senior leadership role.

    Molding Operations Supervisor

    Reporting to the Molding Plant Manager.  The Molding Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing and directing the Molding Operations, including providing direct leadership to the Shift Supervisors, to ensure key Department performance targets are met. Molding Operations includes all Continental Shift operations personnel and all Packing personnel.

    Accountabilities:

    • Maintain a high level of plant and machine safety:
      • Ensures all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner.
      • Ensure accident/incident investigations are carried out and documented to determine root causes, corrective actions and following-up to ensure completion.
      • Promote proactive identification and elimination of hazards.
      • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.
      • Regularly audit the Shop Floor, including weekend shifts, to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented.
    • Manage the Molding Operations Teams:
      • Ensure that all team members are treated in an equal and fair manner, abiding by the company Standards of Conduct.
      • Be responsible for the supervision of direct reporting Team Members.
        • Maintain Job Descriptions.
        • Set objectives and expectations.
        • Establish personal development and training plans.

    Production Manager (II)

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensures daily area production requirements are met while maintaining high standards of quality.

    • Ensure all resources are effectively utilized to maximize all value-added activities.

    • Liaises with all departments to exchange information on improving existing area manufacturing procedures and systems.

    • Identifies issues involving inefficiencies, non-value added activities and quality concerns.  Identifies root causes and recommends and/or implements corrective action.

    • Maintains safety standards for all assigned areas by ensuring safety requirements are met and policies are adhered to.

    • Compiles and reports on area quality concerns and all non-value added activities at the monthly management meetings.  Identifies and implements corrective action and ensures timely follow-up.

    • Conducts regular, timely reviews and yearly Discretionary Salaried Merit Plan assessment for all direct reports and ensures timely review of hourly personnel.

    • Identifies improvement opportunities of personnel and provides direction regarding improvement or developmental opportunities.
