Molding Process Technician

Reporting to the Molding Shift Supervisor, the Process Technician is responsible for managing and directing resources to tackle technical issues that arise during the shift that results in meeting safety, quality and delivery targets and to foster a working environment that is fair, equitable and driven to continuously improve.

Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety
    • Ensures all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner using appropriate PPE when applicable. Provide the training when appropriate
    • Assist shift supervisor in accident/incident investigations to determine root causes, corrective actions and follow-up to ensure completion
    • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards
    • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed
    • Regularly audit the shop floor to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented
       
  • Coordinate the Shift Molding Operations

    • Identify and communicate mold/machine problems to Tool Room and Maintenance. Act as a liaison between the various departments to address issues for timely corrective action
    • When paged by Machine Operator for help, attend to the request at the earliest.
    • Communicate with next and previous shifts to understand:
      • Technical issues that affect attainment and needs continued attention.
      • Quality issues that affect attainment
    • Assist Shift Supervisor in responding to NCR’s and PQI’s including establishing and following up on corrective action plans
       
  • Operate the Injection Molding Machine, Stacking Equipment and Molds

    Machine:

    • Perform complex troubleshooting and process adjustments
    • Start-up any Injection Molding machine without a saved set-up
    • Create master set-up sheet with all machine parameters when one does not exist
    • Set-up servo and mechanical swing chute. Maintain, troubleshoot and make adjustments if needed for proper functioning
    • Perform basic machine maintenance to help troubleshoot for maintenance

    Mold:

    • Make a decision to block cavities
    • Identify mold problems for repair and communicate to tooling department for corrective action

    Stacking Equipment:

    • Verify stacker set-up. Troubleshoot and make adjustments if needed for proper functioning
    • Set-up, troubleshoot Polystacker systems
  • Report and Document

    • Maintain master set-up sheets of all mold-machine combination in binders
    • Provide detail documentation on corrective actions taken to resolve mold/machine/stacker and quality issues
    • Complete and submit service request to the issuing department during the shift. Follow-up with service request to ensure that the necessary corrective action has been taken and the problem has been resolved
    • Print and file shop floor documentation for future reference
       
  • Develop Skills of Shop Floor Employees

    • Identify training needs for machine operators. Be certified in TWI and ensure TWI methods are being used to train team members
    • Ensure adherence to standard work and provide timely feedback
    • Provide training and coaching to machine operators on operating the machines effectively to produce quality parts
    • Lead continuous improvement projects and ensure machine operator participation

Qualifications:

  • Diploma from a plastic training institute or equivalent
  • Ability to effectively coach, manage and support Team Members.
  • Ability to manage significant workload including conflicting priorities.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in injection molding, processing and tooling.
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and applications.
  • Knowledge of 6 sigma tools and applications.

Details:

  • This job requires both office and plant exposure with considerable time spent on shop floor exposed to noisy environment.
  • Flexibility of work hours required to deal with problems on a 24 hour, 7 day basis.

 Production Manager (II)

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures daily area production requirements are met while maintaining high standards of quality.

  • Ensure all resources are effectively utilized to maximize all value-added activities.

  • Liaises with all departments to exchange information on improving existing area manufacturing procedures and systems.

  • Identifies issues involving inefficiencies, non-value added activities and quality concerns.  Identifies root causes and recommends and/or implements corrective action.

  • Maintains safety standards for all assigned areas by ensuring safety requirements are met and policies are adhered to.

  • Compiles and reports on area quality concerns and all non-value added activities at the monthly management meetings.  Identifies and implements corrective action and ensures timely follow-up.

  • Conducts regular, timely reviews and yearly Discretionary Salaried Merit Plan assessment for all direct reports and ensures timely review of hourly personnel.

  • Identifies improvement opportunities of personnel and provides direction regarding improvement or developmental opportunities.

  • Actively participates and drives continuous improvement activities to ensure maximum results in reducing costs.

  • Visits customer sites as a company liaison to establish and build upon positive customer relationships.

  • Prepares and monitors departmental budgets and capital requirements, ensures performance within the established parameters.

  • Actively participates in APQP teams design reviews, and feasibility commitment teams as required.

  • Involved in effective utilization of plant personnel within areas of responsibility including hiring, promotion and disciplinary actions as required.

  • Identifies and schedules training requirements for direct reports and assists in training needs of all hourly employees in area of responsibility.

  • Any other reasonable request made by management.

  • Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Performing workplace inspections

  • Conducting information sessions (i.e. safety talks, staff meetings, pre-shift meetings)

Qualifications:

Printing Shift Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Manage shop floor performance of shift

    • Ensure quality and schedule attainment requirement are met
    • Ensure productivity targets for the shift are met
    • Manage vacation planning
  • Support and drive continuous improvement

    • Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvements to all key results area; i.e., print quality, cost, reliability, flexible operations, safety housekeeping, yields, etc.
    • Lead and/or participate in improvements projects
    • Work in partnership with peers to implement process change and physical upgrades.  Ensure new systems are properly commissioned and validated and S.O.P’s are developed.  Ensure Team Members are trained to support ongoing operations at high standards of quality, efficiency and flexibility
    • Aid in the development of performance metrics to help drive continuous improvement and implement change. 
    • Establish principles for accountability, constructive feedback and personal growth for all employees.

Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, implement and maintain a total maintenance system
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify causes of machine breakdowns (downtime analysis) and make recommendations to fix problem/issue

  • Responsible for developing an effective and functional Preventative Maintenance system
  • Responsible for administration of asset management system (MP2)
  • Conduct gap analysis of maintenance systems at all facilities
  • Work with Engineering/Quality/Production departments to provide input on equipment design and ensure quality standards are met and maintained
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities that enhance quality and efficiencies
  • Provide expertise in reducing cost of maintenance

  • Recognized technical trade certificate - Licensed as an Engineer, Industrial Electrician or Maintenance Millwright, with a minimum of 5 years progressive leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Practical knowledge based on a minimum of 7 years work related experience in manufacturing/automotive industry.
  • Ability to read circuit diagrams and blue print drawings, ability to work with SPC.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic machinery, automation, electronic, electrical and PLC's.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial safety procedures.
  • Very good understanding of Canadian Standard Association and Ontario Electrical Code Book.
  • Strong understanding of TS16949 and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation.
  • Strong people management skills to lead, direct and coach employees.

Quality Specialist (Plant)

To ensure that all concerns relating to customers, both external and internal, and suppliers, are effectively contained and permanent corrective action is put in place to prevent any reoccurrence.

Requirements:

  • Facilitate training related to quality and develop training material as required.
  • Deal with customer rejects and problems and takes necessary steps to rectify concerns. Investigate substandard results and conduct research on product defects in order to make recommendations on changes in materials or processes.
  • Deal with customers and engineering on advanced quality issues and programs and provide direction where required.
  • Conduct investigations on non-conformances and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Attend meetings as per customer request and translate requirements into plant systems and procedures.
  • Analyze SPC data and assist in improving manufacturing process capability.
  • Review all Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD &T), Significant Characteristics (SC), and Key Product Characteristics (KPC) with customers on new programs to address any quality issues.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare sample submission packages (PPAP) to include all pertinent documents per customers requirements.  Prepare Failure Mode Effect Analyses (FMEA), Process Flow Diagrams and Process Control Plans for assigned programs and revise the document when change is required.
  • Review fixture designs to ensure that parts are properly located in accordance with the GD & T and that the fixtures pass required variable data and attribute checks in accordance with customer expectations.
  • Perform dimensional checks, capability studies, Gauge R&R studies, and audits as needed to support customer concerns, APQP and PPAP requirements.
  • Review and analyze CMM layout report and recommend changes as required for a successful PPAP submission
  • Co-ordinate process capability studies to verify the capability of a product/process at launch.
  • Conduct training on new programs, and provide required training materials, i.e. quality guides, control plans, etc.
  • Assist with the design of experiments and DVP&R when required.
  • Review and approve supplier PPAP Packages and follows up for re-submission as required.
  • Monitor suppliers performance and develop new suppliers, assist with suppliers improvement plans to ensure that corrections are being implemented within specified time frame.
  • Supervise Corporate Testing Laboratory and all related activities.
  • Develop and achieve high quality customer service at customer shipping locations.
  • Responsible for new product launch and customer assembly plant liaison.
  • Plan and perform internal audit in all facilities.
  • Responsible for warranty returns and high mileage vehicle review reporting, analysis and follow-up
  • Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.
  • Ensures he/she is in full compliance with the laws of Ontario and/or any other province or state, while representing the Company or during the use of any company provided equipment.

  • Reporting to supervision the absence of, or defect in any equipment or protective device of which you are aware and which may endanger the health and safety of yourself or another worker.
  • Reporting to supervision any contravention of the Act or the Regulations or the existence of any hazards of which you are aware.
  • Not removing or making ineffective any protective device required by the Regulations or without providing an adequate temporary device.  When the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately.
  • Not using or operating any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger yourself, or another worker.
  • Not engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct.
  • Effectively working with 8D teams to determine the root cause of non-conformances
  • Determining corrective actions that can be implemented to eliminate the root cause of non-conformances

  • 3 - 5 years experience in a Quality environment in manufacturing/automotive industry
  • Understanding of Quality System, PPAP, APQP requirements
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), Significant Characteristics (SC), customer-specific requirements and various test methods.
  • Certified Quality Engineer CQE body of knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective problem-solving skills (8D) and decision-making skills
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings
  • Computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, GroupWise
