Molding Process Engineer

Responsibilities:

Monitor and ensure Health & Safety / HACCP / 5S compliance:

  • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards.
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.

Provide day to day technical support to Molding Operations and Maintenance

  • Thoroughly understand thin wall molding and stacking technology and have ownership for the production processes.
  • Be knowledgeable of quality standards and understand process / product interactions.
  • Develop and maintain all Master Setup Sheets, including monitoring Setup Sheet updates and the Master Setup Sheet Procedure.
  • Act as a resource to Operations, Maintenance and Quality personnel by taking ownership and leading resolution of escalated day to day problems using the Problem Solving methodology.
  • Report on performance and corrective actions at appropriate forums, such as Daily Production Meeting.
  • Provide feedback to Molding Supervision on the compliance to processes and procedures.
  • Oversee and ensure proper execution of all Test Request (including sign off) for new equipment/products/processes for Molding.
  • Be responsible to achieve and report all Cycle-Time and Cavitations targets.

Identify and drive implementation of Continuous Improvements

  • Understand Molding and Toronto Operations objectives and actively seek to understand issues negatively impacting Molding and downstream customer performance and recommend or implement corrective actions.
  • Understand and report on current state process capabilities and reliability.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in establishing the performance metrics and the CI programme for the Department.
  • Lead, facilitate or participate in improvement projects and establishment of associated Standard Work.
  • Facilitate implementation of changes on the shift.
  • Act as Molding’s primary contact and representative to Engineering regarding any Molding process related project or issue.
  • Lead accreditation of new or upgraded processes.
  • Ensure training documentation is complete and training plans in place prior to turnover to Production.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, spare parts and preventative maintenance programs are in place by project completion.
  • Ensure process improvements deliver projected results.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture.

Develop skill level of Molding Operations and Maintenance personnel

  • Identify personnel skill gaps and opportunities.
  • Participate with appropriate levels of supervision to establish skill development and training plans.
  • Train personnel as required.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering, P.Eng, or  equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of technical support experience in a fast paced, high volume Lean Manufacturing environment with 3-5 years in a senior leadership role.

Project Engineer/Manager

Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Establish multi disciplinary project teams and oversee all project activities
  • Develop a detailed project timeline, which lists all the critical steps necessary to complete the project from concept to closure.
  • Monitor project timelines and activities and adjust/escalate as required to maintain project priorities
  • Provide input to the Finance Department to aid on the accurate costing of new products and processes
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the agreed upon deliverables (documented in the Project Contract)
  • Contingency planning and risk management for new products/processes and any potential effects on existing products/processes
  • Co-ordinate mold/system design reviews and provide final approval
  • Ensure Preventative Maintenance plans for new product/processes are developed, applicable and can be supported by Operations
  • Coordinate activities related to new mold/system tests
  • Approve new products/processes based on product specifications and customer requirements
  • Seek product approvals and sign-offs from stakeholders including Production, Sales Quality Control and external customers
  • Provide regular project status update reports to Project Team and Senior Management

Supporting Product Design to Optimize Manufacturability:

Continuous Improvement Leader

Purpose of Position:

To lead, facilitate and participate in continuous improvement projects and activities, develop the skill and abilities of Team Members and ensure proper usage and application of standardized process methodologies and tools to improve safety, quality, delivery and productivity performance by reducing costs and eliminate waste throughout Toronto Operations.

Responsibilities:

Provide technical support

  • Provide day to day support to Toronto Operation with respect to application of standardized process methodologies and tools for activities related to quality, cost reliability, flexible operations, safety, housekeeping, yield improvements, troubleshooting and root cause analysis, etc.
  • Provide 6σ support, such as statistical data analysis, as required.

Develop CI skills and ensure compliance to corporate Lean/6σ standards

  • Be the subject matter expert of Lean and Six Sigma tools such as 5S, Value Stream Mapping, TPM, Problem Solving, JIT, Jidoka, Kanban, Kaizen, Project Management, FMEA, etc.
  • Provide formal training on tools and process methodologies.
  • Provide informal coaching and mentoring to develop the skill and ability of other Company Team Members.
  • Ensure compliance to established Lean/6σ standard tools and process methodologies.

Lead, facilitate & participate in new process implementations

  • Lead and/or participate in preparation of feasibility studies, business cases, financial justifications and CARS for capital projects.

Project Manager

Responsibilities:

Product development

  • Manage product opportunities (POIRs) consistent with the CtoGL Process.
  • Complete Design Input Worksheet in conjunction with Account Manager and/or POIR Initiator.
  • Determine the product opportunity (POIR) deliverables for each project phase in conjunction with Sales and/or Business Development
  • Manage the required project deliverables (i.e. ABC part design matrix, concept drawings, detailed drawings, SLAs, samples and/or test parts, Poly Pak Analysis, Unit Cavity development, PTB, etc.) as required by Sales and/or Business Development.
  • Value engineer existing or new products (cups/lids) to function on existing or proposed filling systems while adhering to the customer’s marketing and sales objectives.
  • Identify resin type and grade, pigments, and additives for the purposes of costing and customer information if required.
  • If required provide detailed drawings to Mold suppliers to facilitate quoting of complete molds or stacks only.
  • If required provide detailed drawings to Mold suppliers to facilitate quoting, design and manufacture of unit cavity molds.
  • If required determine product packaging requirements for the purposes of costing and customer information.
  • Provide input data to the Finance Department for accurate costing of new products and/or processes.
  • Provide input data to the Finance Department for accurate costing of process changes (cavitation, cycle time, etc.) or part design changes due to the value engineering of existing products.
  • Upon Green Light ensure the smooth transition of a product opportunity into the launch phase utilizing NPDP.
Project Management
  • Manage projects from Green Light to Launch consistent with NPDP.
  • Complete Project Contract, Timeline, Budget, Action Register and CAR.
  • Establish multi disciplinary project teams, oversee all project activities and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the agreed upon deliverables as documented in the Project Contract, Timeline, Budget and CAR.
  • Provide detailed drawings to Mold suppliers to facilitate quoting, design and manufacture of complete molds or stacks only and unit cavity molds if required.
  • Co-ordinate mold and system design reviews and provide final approval and ensure all issues are documented and actions addressed.
  • Ensure that Preventative Maintenance procedures for new product/processes are developed, applicable and can be supported by Operations. This activity is to be coordinated with the appropriate Process Engineer.
  • Manage the development of specifications for new products.
  • Co-ordinate product approvals and sign-offs from stakeholders including; Operations, Quality Control, Sales, external customers, and others as required.
  • Provide regular project status update reports to Project Team and Senior Management.
  • Escalate to the Manager E&T when actions, events, etc, jeopardize the timely and successful launch of a new product.
  • Upon project completion provide actual input data to the Finance Department for analysis and comparison to original costing inputs.

Supply Management

  • Source and research suppliers as required to support Purchasing, Sales or Operations.
  • Determine costs and delivery of project related equipment, molds, materials, and purchases. 
  • Summarize information and present multiple options to the Manager of E&T for approval.
  • Provide input to purchasing decisions as required.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery and qualification of purchased project equipment, molds, materials, etc.
  • Ensure suppliers meet their contractual requirements and provide the appropriate levels of support to the company.
  • Provide input to key suppliers on an added needed basis as part of the process of designing and developing new molds and/or technologies.

Other responsibilities:

  • Provide written Trip Reports to support sales and marketing efforts as required.
  • Provide written Trip Reports for customer visits for all product development and product launch projects.
  • Document and distribute Meeting Minutes for all product development and product launch projects.
  • Provide Team, Customer and Management Project Status Updates as defined in the Project Contract and as required.

Estimator Process Planning

Requirements:
  • Determines the most cost effective method of producing a variety of assemblies using minimal material, equipment and labour
  • Documents manufacturing processes and resource requirements for potential new business
  • Calculates and/or estimates equipment and tooling costs for potential new business
  • Recommends changes to product designs to provide a more robust manufacturing process
  • Coordinates with the Purchasing department as a technical resource when quoting and sourcing equipment and tooling

  • Consults with APQP teams to ensure feedback is captured once tooling is kicked off and designs are started
  • Create visual aids to supplement written information for technical reviews with customers (internal and external)
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) studies and consult with designers on future products and engineering changes
  • Propose changes to equipment and tooling standards to reduce cost and increase product quality

Requirements:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent job related experience
  • Minimum 7 years experience in the automotive industry with exposure to building equipment, programmable logic control, electrical, robotics, etc.
  • 3D Cad Data and drawings
  • Geometric Dimensioning  and Tolerencing, TS 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Quality Planning processes
  • In –depth knowledge of advanced manufacturing methods such as welding, assembly, laser processing, automation, material handling, etc.
  • Ability to determine the best process for producing a part
  • Firm understanding  of the costs  involved in building various types of automation and tooling
  • Effective problem-solving and decision- making skills
  • Ability to handle multi tasks and changing priorities
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and exercises sound Judgement
  • Computer skills: Excel, CAD experience 3D
